This is a limited-edition maekake apron created in collaboration with France-based artist Stéphane Casier of Yeaaah! Studio, who is known for his playful designs inspired by Japanese pop culture. The design is silk-screen printed on 100% thick cotton fabric woven using 100-year old shuttle looms made by Toyota.

Limited edition of 100 pieces only, there will be no reprints.

Artist Statement
Weaving the future while learning from the past.
The theme of this artist series basically describes all my work as I’ve always mixed retro and modern influences to create my own style. For this design I wanted to stay true to the original look of maekake as I’m fascinated by vintage advertising. I used one of my characters : Kyûka the kappa. His family owns the Kappa Food & Beverage Company, they sell cucumber-based products (Kyûka is named after the katakana writing of cucumber キューカンバー).

Materials: 100% Cotton
Dimensions: Apron – 67 cm x 47 cm (including fringe) / Belt – 260cm (suitable for waist sizes up to 95cm)

Instructions for Care:
  • Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
  • Do not tumble dry.
  • Do not wash in warm water.
  • Wash separately from whites as the dye may transfer onto other fabrics. May shrink slightly after wash due to the nature of the fabric.
